Description

On paper, these Neumann headphones promise a relatively high impedance. In practice, a high sensitivity ensures this is fit for task even with lower spec headphone amplifiers such as the tech found within your favourite smartphone. The NDH 20 implements newly designed 38mm driver with high-gauss neodymium magnets for high sensitivity and low distortion. According to Neumann, these drivers eliminate the need for a dedicated headphone amplifier as they can be just as easily powered by mobile devices like smartphones and laptop computers.

The spatial resolution is impressive. The NDH 30 allows razor-sharp localization in the stereo panorama and makes the depth of the mix evident. To minimize channel crosstalk, the NDH 30 is supplied with a high-quality, cloth covered cable that is internally balanced. Part of a Successful Family

Tonally it’s fine, but for some reason, they manage to sound pretty anemic. To get any kind of impact from them, I occasionally find myself cranking the volume higher than I would like. The Neumann acoustic engineers took the historically awesome Sennheiser HD 650 as their sonic reference point, re-balancing the sound to squeeze out the added bass warmth from the 650s and achieve a balanced tuning that’s as faithful as possible to the original recording. This is where the “pro” element of these headphones comes through."""

Also, as a NDH 20 owner & someone heavy into Sound Monitoring, I may be slightly biased but while I only own the NDH 20, I have also heard the DT 1700 Pro separately & side by side. Sennheiser themselves, of course, are also well known both for microphones and headphones, but until this year, the Neumann brand has never encompassed headphones. That has changed with the launch of the NDH 20.The Neumann's are Interesting headphones that will appeal more to the professional recording musician, first and foremost, and also to the discriminating Audiophile who can appreciate the idea that each (Model) of (good sounding) headphones is a unique experience that is not like any other. There is one credible video review online and the reviewer cites their sound as dead flat and amazing. I suspect that once again, this is totally related to the gear being used, with the "treble enhanced" reviewer using something that is SS and bass lean.

The NDH 20 itself is a closed over-ear headphone which, according to the information provided by the manufacturer, offers a high level of sound insulation to keep the distractions of the outside world at bay. There’s also the promise of exceptional wearing comfort, while the manufacturing finish and materials utilised in production are also of a high standard. The headphones are equipped with two specially developed dynamic 38 mm drivers, delivering an impressive 1,000 mW of power, along with a max sound pressure level that exceeds 100 dB SPL. If you have owned the HiFiMann HE - 300s, then you will recognize much of what the Neumann is presenting. In the case of these headphones, you have a very (perceived) flat response, yet, the clarity is almost hyped. I'm upgrading from an AKG K702. It's a fine headphone, but quite light in the low-end department, which is a big "no-no" for electronic musicians, and causes me to overcompensate the low-end all the time. These are Keepers and every one I sent a photo to is Jealous! they look like a piece of audio artwork, and well sound great.

Ultrasone Signature DXP might also work for you though subjectively sound is closer to slightly less refined version of NDH 20. The comfort is surprisingly bad. The headphones are very heavy and the headband is quite hard. After an hour you will feel like taking a break. The ear cups are big enough but I wish they were oval shape, rather than round. As for mids-proper – wonderful! Clean, linear, and very detailed. In my opinion, it doesn’t matter how spectacular is any other aspect of a headphone if the mids aren’t right. And “right” is an understatement here. With the right recording, the Neumann NDH 30 deliver the goods here. Treble
